About Us

About The Owner

Hi, my name is Beth Sheffield. Since 2013, I've been the dedicated founder and owner of Above & Beyond Petcare Ottawa, which has earned the reputation of providing exceptional pet care services in our city.

Why I started Above & Beyond Petcare Ottawa:

It was in 2013 when I tried to hire a pet care provider for my own dog, I found there were few quality pet care providers in our city. I realized if I could provide a service that met the standards and expectations I had for my own dog that would, in turn, help other pet owners who loved their pets just as I loved mine.

Not long after, I started offering pet care services on my own. My services quickly became more and more popular, to the point I knew I required a team to help. But, I also knew that team had to be one where the quality of their services matched the standards and expectations I had brought to my own work. Anyone who knows me understands that building and maintaining that kind of team is my passion.

As our clientele continues to grow, we remain a small-scale team, where quality care is the goal that drives me and my team.

I often get asked by clients and fellow pet-care business owners, how do you manage to hire such great people and how do you keep them with you for so long!

My secret - I never rush into hiring pet sitters and dog walkers just for the sake of keeping clients, or growing our company, or for appearances.  Our expectations and our service are higher than that, which is why we have had only 5 star ratings/reviews since day one.

You and your pets’ comfort, health and happiness are, and will always be, our number one priority, period!

Throughout my years working in the pet industry, I have built a strong network with Ottawa’s top pet care professionals, including: veterinary professionals; trainers; other pet care/dog walking companies; groomers; doggy daycares; pet nutritionists; etc. That allows me to refer my clients to the best of the best. And, if on the off-chance we are booked up on the date you need us, we will refer you to another service provider who we know and respect.

In addition, my past community work experiences were so helpful to me in establishing the company and continue to influence how I operate the business. I have been a Board member on the Board of Directors of Christie Lake Camp, Friday Night Youth Club program coordinator for youth with special needs, counselor at The Distress Centre of Ottawa and Mary's Group Home. I also have a wide educational background in human rights, personal support work, and a Bachelor of Education from Ottawa University.

All this shapes who I am today, and it directly influences my approach to building a reliable and community-based company that offers exceptional care to your beloved pets in our wonderful city.

What Our Clients Are Saying

This company for pets is the best I have come across in Ottawa. We have our dog picked up every day for some exercise and fun. Beth is very knowledgeable about pet personalities and her small group interactions have kept our rambunctious three year old Samoyed very happy.

What Our Clients Are Saying

You can tell that Beth is truly passionate about dogs by how she interacts with them. She is understanding, kind, caring, fun and the list could go on. Our dog Thor has behavioural issues which makes it difficult for him to trust new people, and yet he almost magically warmed up to Beth in just a couple of meetings over the summer. Her dog Henry is easygoing, fun, confident, friendly and just plain cool. He gave Thor a sense of safety and reassurance and you could see his overall behaviour improved when he was with Henry. Beth knows the importance of looking after someone's four-legged family member and she likes to pay attention to every single detail to ensure their safety and wellbeing at all times. We're very happy that we found Above & Beyond Petcare and we highly recommend it!

Hi! My name is Monika and I am thrilled to become a part of the Above & Beyond Petcare team. I have grown up with dogs and cats and for the better part of the past 13 years have been working closely with rescues helping dogs find forever homes and working with those struggling with behavioural issues. From an early age I recognized that each animal is an individual and as such cater my care and training accordingly to what their needs are so that they can live a happy, well balanced life. My dogs mean the world to me and I share the same respect and admiration for others furry companions as I would for my own. :)

Sam

Hi there! I'm Sam, and I'm thrilled to be a member of the A&B family! I've been working in the pet care industry for 10 years now, and it's something I've always been passionate about. I've owned a variety of animals - ones with hair, fur and even some with scales - you name it! Currently I'm the mama to a 2 year old St. Bernard lap dog, and a 6 month old bully breed who is just pure joy & sunshine!

I have a love for outdoors and studied Environmental Studies at Algonquin. If I'm not outside on an adventure with the dogs, I'm likely streaming video gameplay content. I enjoy interacting with new people, learning new things and adapting to different environments. My love for animals and the environment are why I call this career my "little piece of heaven." Looking forward to meeting you and providing you with all your pet care needs.

Darby

Hello All and thank you for welcoming me! My name is Darby and I am happy to say a proud member of the A&B petcare team! My love for animals began earlier than I can remember. My fur baby is named Marsha, a spunky flame-point siamese kitten. Marsha came home through Ottawa Stray Cat Rescue where I volunteer my photography services and my husband and I fostered 11 cats and kittens last year. I cherish the connection I build with your pet. The feelings of excitement when I approach each door for a visit or walk-time are mutual. Each dog enhances my day! I can’t wait to get to know yours :)

Sarah I.

Working as a pet care specialist allows me to enjoy all the benefits that come with owning a pet. Recently I’ve had to saying goodbye to my twelve-year-old dog Teddy. He passed away of cancer in December 2019. I was in need of a job with flexibility since returning to university, and along with that I was still coping with the fact I didn’t have a dog to care for anymore.
Working at A & B has been the universes way of helping me through the loss of my own pet, and also has given me the opportunity to learn more about how to properly care for animals. I’m so grateful for the opportunity, I can easily say this is by far the best job I have ever had! I look forward to every walk and visit, I truly feel like I’m the one gaining from the time spent with my client’s pets. Animals are very responsive to this, and I can confidently say your pet will always have my undivided attention, and love! I also enjoy photography, and love capturing your pets’ finest moments.
